City firm Travers Smith has become the latest firm to convert to a limited liability partnership (LLP).

The conversion takes effect from today (July 1) and will apply to the firm’s office in London. The practice’s Paris office will become an AARPI, the French equivalent of an LLP.

The move follows a partnership vote in May. The LLP will apply to both equity and non-equity partners.

News of the conversion follows the firm’s recent partnership promotions for 2008, with four lawyers making the step up.

Anthony Foster was promoted in corporate finance, while Helen Croke got the nod in the firm’s key private equity practice. Robert Fell was made a partner in litigation as was fund specialist Sam Kay.

The quartet will join the partnership today, bringing the total number of partners at the firm to 67.

Last month, Davies Arnold Cooper (DAC) converted to an LLP following a partner vote at the end of last year. The conversion applied to the to the firm’s UK offices in London, Manchester and St Albans and its offices in Spain and Mexico.

In May, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Macfarlanes and Hammonds all converted to LLP status, while Pinsent Masons and city duo Nabarro and Ashurst also made the switch over the past 18 months.

Slaughter and May and Simmons & Simmons are now the only top 10 City firms without LLP status.
