Taylor Wessing is taking fashion company Marchpole Holdings to court over unpaid legal fees. The City law firm is suing its client for a total of £202,968 for failing to pay bills, despite requests from the firm.

On top of the unpaid fees Taylor Wessing is also seeking interest of £21,831.58 on the outstanding amount, with interest continuing to accrue at £72.29 a day.

The fees relate to advice Taylor Wessing gave Marchpole after being appointed in 2006 to advise on its acquisition of women’s footwear designer Greenmark. The £3m acquisition completed in March 2007 but Taylor Wessing alleges it has yet to receive any payment from Marchpole.

The deal saw corporate partner Daniel Rosenberg leading the team for Taylor Wessing acting opposite Field Fisher Waterhouse for the seller.

A spokesperson for Taylor Wessing confirmed that a High Court writ had been issued. It is understood that the firm has attempted to settle the dispute outside court. No date for the case has been set, and the firm declined to comment on whether it had appointed external counsel.

A spokesperson for Marchpole Holdings said the company had paid £75,000 in fees to Taylor Wessing.
