Slaughter and May ally Hengeler Mueller has elected a new senior management team, with Andreas Austmann and Klaus-Dieter Stephan taking the roles of co-managing partner at the elite German independent firm.

The decision to elect the two was taken at a partner meeting on Saturday (17 May) and is effective immediately.

The duo take over from Matthias Blaum and Christof Jaeckle, who are based in Duesseldorf and Frankfurt respectively and have completed their four-year term at the helm.

Stephan, a corporate and M&A partner and former secondee with Slaughters, is based in the firm’s Frankfurt office. He became a partner at Hengeler in 1994.

Austmann, who is based in Duesseldorf, also specialises in corporate and M&A work and has been a partner since 1995.

Hengeler Mueller operates a management structure with two managing partners, one in each of its principal offices Frankfurt and Duesseldorf. The 250-lawyer firm has additional offices in Berlin, Munich, Brussels and London.

The news comes after Slaughters installed a new senior management team earlier this year, with former corporate chief Chris Saul stepping up to replace Tim Clark as senior partner from 1 May. The elite London firm named Graham White as its new executive partner, taking over from Melvyn Hughes, with Paul Olney succeeding David Frank as practice partner.
