Simmons & Simmons and Reed Smith have joined a raft of firms appointed to the new Airbus financing panel.

Simmons, Reed Smith, Norton Rose, White & Case and Allen & Overy (A&O) have all been given places on the panel, which provides legal advice on issues relating to the financing of new Airbus aircraft.

Simmons and Reed Smith are new additions — replacing Lovells and Denton Wilde Sapte, which both missed out during the recent review — while the other three retain their existing places.

All five panel firms will now advise the export credit agencies (ECAs) of three European countries on cross-border financing issues for a number of different airlines and leasing companies looking to buy Airbus aircraft produced by both Boeing and Airbus.

The panel was originally set up several years ago by the ECAs of the UK (the Export Credits Guarantee Department), France (the Compagnie Francaise d’Assurance pour le Commerce Exterieur) and Germany (Euler Hermes Kreditversicherungs).

The appointments come after it emerged that Clifford Chance (CC) is advising Airbus owner EADS on proceedings brought against the company and some of its directors by the French Autorite des Marches Financiers (AMF) for alleged breach of market information duties and for breach of insider trading rules.

The magic circle law firm’s role emerged after the AMF confirmed it would launch a formal action against the company and some current and former executives following an 18-month investigation.
