The top 20 UK firm is making up half a dozen new partners in London, including two in litigation and two in corporate. Matthew Priday is made up in the City real estate team, while Ajay Pathak gets the nod in the financial markets practice.
The firm's German and Italian arms each receive one new partner, in finance and tax respectively.
The tally represents a drop on recent years, with the firm making up a record 16 in 2007 and 13 the year before. The appointments, which take effect from 1 May, will bring the firm's total partnership to 175.
Commenting on the news, SJ Berwin managing partner Ralph Cohen said: "We are very pleased to welcome lawyers of such quality into our partnership. Every one of them has delivered extraordinary value for our clients and our firm over recent years. These appointments are testimony to our confidence in their capabilities and in our firm's future growth."
Senior partner Jonathan Blake added: "This year's promotions reinforce strategic areas of growth for SJ Berwin in corporate, finance, real estate and litigation, as well as our commitment to the further development of our pan-European practice."
The news comes after magic circle giant Linklaters yesterday (21 April) promoted 28 new partners, including seven in London.
