Osborne Clarke (OC) has hired Wiggin’s former senior partner, Mike Turner, to head its internet and digital media practice.

Turner, who is set to join the top 50 UK law firm’s City office in July as an equity partner in the corporate group, will step into a newly-created role leading the internet and digital team practice.

He will join the firm from investment manager Oakfield Partners, which he joined in 2006 from Wiggin as chief executive. His responsibilities within the company included managing an early-stage venture fund focused on the online digital media sector.

Turner previously spent 21 years at Wiggin, where he held a variety of roles, including head of corporate as well as managing and senior partner. His past clients include Flextech/Telewest, ITV and Global Crossing.

OC head of corporate Adrian Bott (pictured) said: “Mike’s ‘client side’ experience will prove invaluable in this new role. Mike will complement and draw together our existing specialist expertise across the spectrum of communications, media and technology.”

Turner said: “The current advances and opportunities in the digital media space are unprecedented. The talk of the last decade is now rapidly translating into reality and the nature of the sector means that this is happening on a truly global basis. I am very excited to be joining the firm.”

As Legal Week reported earlier this month (1 May), OC was recently appointed to Motorola’s legal panel when the company completed the first formal review of its UK legal advisers. OC was appointed alongside Bevan Brittan to handle the bulk of its UK work. Bristol intellectual property partner Andrew Braithwaite is handling the client relationship.
