Scots firm McGrigors has boosted its newly-qualified (NQ) pay, with its starting lawyers in London now receiving £62,000 a year, up 19% from the equivalent period last year.

The firm has also increased the rate in its other offices. NQs in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen will pocket a salary of £35,000, up 6% from £33,000 last year.

The new salary bands took effect from 1 October and will last for 12 months.

Earlier this year the firm brought forward its annual pay review by three months to allow its lawyers to compare pay rates with rival firms, which traditionally conduct pay reviews during the summer.

The law firm also pays a yearly bonus, which is currently being calculated based on the firm’s annual performance as McGrigors’ financial year runs from 1 October.

The salary move brings McGrigors into line with its national rivals in the capital, which became embroiled in a summer pay war after Addleshaw Goddard announced aggressive rises in its national pay scale.
