LG is set to make up five partners in this year’s promotion round - its largest batch of promotions in recent years - with the top 50 UK firm's wealth planning and real estate practices the biggest beneficiaries.

Nick Rucker and Catharine Bell join the firm’s wealth planning practice, while the real estate team is boosted by the promotions of Philip Baker and Robert Adam as partners. Bell also heads LG’s contentious trusts group.

The final promotion sees Oliver Riley step up in the corporate department. Riley is also a member of the firm’s India group, focusing on advising Indian businesses on their international legal requirements as well as international businesses targeting the key emerging market.

The news marks one of the largest round of promotions made by the firm in recent years, with two partners being made up in 2007 and none at all in either of the two previous years. In 2004 the firm made up four new partners.

The announcement follows the recent hire of Richard Marke as a partner to bolster the firm’s commerce and technology practice. Marke joined LG in March from Travers Smith and specialises in intellectual property and IT matters.

Yesterday (21 April) rival City firm SJ Berwin announced its own round of partner promotions, making up six new partners in London from an overall tally of eight.
