LG has bagged a four-lawyer litigation team from Dorsey & Whitney, as the City firm becomes the latest UK practice to target litigation work against banks.

Jean-Pierre Douglas-Henry, James Curle and Thomas Ross joined LG’s London office this week (11 February) as partners. Douglas-Henry and Curle were previously partners at Dorsey. They will be joined by associate Verity Barker.

The team joined Dorsey from elite City firm Slaughter and May in 2005 and specialises in the banking sector, financial institutions and fraud. A factor in the move is understood to be the group’s desire to act against financial institutions – a position they were unable to adopt at the US firm.

LG managing partner Hugh Maule commented: “With the continuing impact of the credit crunch – and the full effect of its shockwave still ahead – it is critical that we have robust banking and financial services litigation expertise to complement our existing, strong commercial litigation practice."

Other firms to have positioned themselves to act against banks include Barlow Lyde & Gilbert, which recently represented British Energy in a dispute with Credit Suisse, and Manches.

Most recently, Collyer Bristow announced formally that it too will litigate against banks. The firm predicts an increase of bank-on-bank litigation as the impact of the credit crunch continues to be felt.
