Gibson Dunn & Crutcher has boosted its Los Angeles corporate practice with the hire of a senior partner from Jones Day.

Jai Pathak joined Gibson Dunn as partner on Monday (11 February). His practice focuses on cross-border M&A, as well as infrastructure development and private equity. He has advised clients including Goldman Sachs, Motorola and the Indian Government.

At Jones Day, Pathak was head of M&A for the California region and previously headed up the firm’s India practice. He is a former managing partner of the Cleveland-based firm’s Singapore office and has spent a number of years in the City.

Commenting on the appointment, Gibson Dunn managing partner Ken Doran said: “[Pathak’s] significant cross-border experience supports our broader strategy of building our international platform to assist our multinational clients and clients with interests in Asia.”

The news continues a run of senior hires by Gibson Dunn over the last few weeks. Earlier this month the firm announced the appointment of Dewey & LeBoeuf corporate finance specialist Mitri Najjar on Monday (4 February) and of Herbert Smith’s head of international arbitration, Laurence Shore (7 February).

Pathak said: “Gibson Dunn’s dedication to building its international platform is very exciting. The opening of the Dubai office this fall is just the most recent example of the firm’s international strategy.”

Gibson Dunn opened its Dubai branch last year, relocating veteran tax partner Peter Baumbusch from Washington DC to head up the office.
