Weightmans has hired a rated partner from regional rival Hill Dickinson to head up its national corporate team.

Ian Vicary has joined the northwest firm’s Liverpool arm and takes over as head of its corporate practice from previous incumbent John Schorah, who stepped up to the role of director of the firm’s umbrella commercial group earlier this year.

Vicary, a well-known corporate lawyer in the northwest market, took a lead role in the recent disposal of Norse Merchant Ferries.

He said: “I liked the sound of where Weightmans is going. I want to contribute hands-on to the growth of the team and its profile in the market.”

Meanwhile another northwest firm, Mace & Jones, has installed litigation partner Richard Corran as its new managing partner.

Corran was appointed to succeed Lawrence Downey in the top role from 1 November.

Downey, who was managing partner for 16 years, is now expected to throw his name into the hat in a fresh senior partner election with current senior partner Graeme Jump set to return to full-time fee earning.
