Weightmans has boosted its insurance division after raiding northwest rival Halliwells for a new partner.

Sharon Kamil joins the 92-partner regional stalwart from the top 30 national firm’s Manchester headquarters, where she was a partner in the insurance liability division.

Kamil was also previously a partner at Manchester outfit James Chapman, which merged with Halliwells last year.

In her new role, she will work as part of Weightmans’ Manchester-based large loss and technical claims team, advising on high-value and catastrophic injury cases. Kamil has also previously acted for a slew of insurance clients as well as local authorities, police authorities and the fire service.

The appointment marks the latest investment in Weightmans’ large loss practice following the arrival earlier this year of Mike Simpson and Mike Pope, who both joined the firm as partners from Browne Jacobson and Keoghs respectively.

Commenting on the hire of Kamil, David Holt, who heads up Weightmans’ large loss unit, said: “[Sharon] is a first-rate lawyer and brings a wealth of experience with her.”

The hire sees Kamil become the latest former James Chapman partner to quit Halliwells after regulatory partner Suzanne Drinkwater left for regional rival Keoghs during the summer.
