The City firm advised the security service on its application for trademark protection over its clothing, footwear and headgear, according to an application published in the Government’s Trade Marks Journal last week.
The application, which was filed on 11 October last year by the former director general Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller on behalf of the security service, was accepted by the UK Intellectual Property Office at the beginning of the month.
Field Fisher is well known for its public sector work, in the past advising central and local government — including government departments, executive agencies and trading funds. It is understood that the firm has also advised MI5 on intellectual property issues in the past.
Other work the firm has done in the sector includes advising the Government on issues relating to ID cards and in February this year advising the Foreign & Commonwealth Office on the procurement of suppliers to redevelop and manage a new web platform.
Field Fisher was recently reappointed to the Government’s ‘Catalist’ legal panel for all commercial work in an overhaul of the roster that saw firms including Eversheds, Burges Salmon and DLA Piper gain places.
