Eversheds has bolstered its public sector pensions practice with the hire of Bevan Brittan’s pensions head, Gary Delderfield.

Delderfield joined the national giant’s Birmingham office as a partner last month in a newly-created role that will see him head the firm’s public sector pensions practice.

He will work alongside Eversheds’ existing head of pensions, Anthony Arter, advising on public sector pension issues involving local authorities, central government departments, education institutions, NHS bodies and private contractors.

The appointment marks Delderfield’s return to Eversheds, as he started his legal career with the firm as a trainee before moving on to Martineau Johnson — joining Bevan Brittan four years ago.

In addition to his time in private practice he has also worked in-house, as part of Norwich Union’s life and pension’s legal team.

Delderfield said: “I am delighted to be returning to Eversheds to head up the public sector pensions team in what is a dynamic pensions practice. Outsourcing public services to the private sector continues to raise many opportunities and is an ongoing challenge to the industry.”

Bevan Brittan said that it intends to recruit a senior lawyer to replace Delderfield.
