Dickinson Dees has secured a mandate as sole legal adviser to supermarket chain Costcutter.
The Newcastle firm had never worked for the supermarket chain before its appointment, which followed a competitive pitching process late last year.
It will now carry out the majority of Costcutter’s work through its office in York, where commercial property partner David Stone has been appointed relationship partner for the new client.
In addition to property work, Dickinson Dees will provide legal advice on the bulk of the supermarket’s main employment, intellectual property, commercial and debt collection work.
The firm has already seconded a lawyer to Costcutter and regular feedback meetings are taking place.
Dickinson Dees senior partner Robin Bloom commented: “This is a great endorsement of what we are seeking to do through our Yorkshire office. Picking up full-service clients is the best type of client because it reflects the full-service nature of the firm and is key to developing our business.”
The appointment will be a boost to the firm, which missed out on a place on Sainsbury’s list of preferred advisers when the supermarket giant finalised its first-ever formal roster of legal advisers earlier this year.
Sainsbury’s head of legal, Nick Grant, led the review, which saw other historic advisers, including Eversheds, also struck off the FTSE 100 retailer’s list of preferred firms.
