Cobbetts has beefed up its planning credentials in Yorkshire after raiding Eversheds for rated partner Marian Griffiths, Legal Week can reveal.

Griffiths joins Cobbetts’ Leeds office after 11 years at the national giant’s local arm.

Griffiths specialises in town and country planning and urban regeneration work with particular experience in the minerals and waste, retail and housing sectors. An experienced advocate, Griffiths has also previously held a number of legal roles in the public sector.

Commenting on her move, Griffiths said: “[Cobbetts] has an excellent reputation as being a dynamic, forward-thinking practice, committed to delivering real value to clients from a regional base.”

Cobbetts national real estate chief Andrew Flounders added: “[Marian’s] skills will complement those of the team and help us to build on our reputation of being the pre-eminent planning practice outside London.”

The hire will come as a boost to the Manchester-based national firm, which this year posted a 26% rebound in partner profits to hit £240,000 after a period of restructuring that included stripping away 15% of its total partnership in a bid to boost profitability.

The top 50 firm has also focused much of its recent investment in London after launching an office in the capital earlier this year with the hire of two corporate partners from City outfit Wedlake Bell.
