Reed Smith Richards Butler has moved to strengthen its City asset finance team with the hire of a partner from Clyde & Co.

Siva Subramaniam joined the US firm from Clydes yesterday (2 April). He had been a partner at the top 20 UK law firm for the last two years.

He advises on asset financing and leasing matters and has acted for airline clients including Singapore Airlines. Subramaniam is expected to bring a number of existing clients with him.

Commenting on the appointment, Reed Smith financial industry group chair Paul Johnston said: “His expertise will complement our existing shipping and aviation sectors and will enhance synergies with our international network, particularly our transport and asset finance capabilities.”

Subramaniam’s appointment comes after a string of lateral hires to the recently-formed financial industry practice at Reed Smith’s London office.

Transport finance partner Rex Rosales joined the firm last year from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where he made partner in 2001.

Rosales, who now heads up the UK transport finance group, added: “We are taking advantage of the existing platform and taking it to the next level. We see current market troubles as creating opportunities for those willing to innovate.”
