Charles Russell has promoted 13 lawyers to its partnership, representing a significant increase on last year’s tally when the firm made up just three new partners.

The top 50 law firm has announced that it is making up 13 new salaried partners, with a further five partners joining the equity ranks. At the same time, the firm has also promoted 17 lawyers to the rank of associate.

The latest promotion round means firm-wide promotions are up 67% on last year, when just 21 lawyers were promoted to either associate or partner.

The appointments come on the back of a strong financial year. The firm’s year-end figures for 2007-08 show revenues up 12% to hit £70.7m.

The results represent an increase of more than £7m on last year’s turnover figure of £63.2m. That total came on the back of a 9.4% growth in revenues.

The results follow a period of expansion for the London-based law firm, which made its long-awaited debut in the Middle East in September when it opened an office in Bahrain.

Norton Rose’s former Bahrain office head, Carol Roberts — who specialises in Middle East project finance — was recruited to head the office, which focuses on corporate and private client work.
