A record 48 firms have bagged places on the Government’s legal panel, the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) announced today (12 June).

The OGC estimates the contracts will be worth a total of around £240m over the next four years.

The panel is divided into eight categories, largest of which is the full commercial panel, boasting 18 firms.

The other categories are IT, telecommunications and e-commerce, property and estates, construction, employment and pensions, corporate and finance, intellectual property and major projects.

This new set up, named the Legal Services Catalist Framework Agreement, is a successor of the previous arrangements under L-CAT. It incorporates full commercial and major projects categories to cover complex and high-value projects which require sustained legal support.

Derek Rothwell, procurement director of OGC Buying Solutions, the trading arm of the OGC, said: “L-CAT saved customers over £5 million in 2006-07. Going forward with the new set of Legal Services frameworks, I’m confident that we will secure even greater savings combined with better accessibility.”
