Bird & Bird has unveiled its largest-ever round of partner promotions, making up 14 new partners across its network of offices.

Just four new partners are made up in the City - the same number as in Germany. The firm’s French practice sees two associates promoted to partner, while the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Sweden receive one new partner apiece.

Corporate gains three new partners, the most of any practice area alongside intellectual property, which also gets three. Tax and employment each land two new partners, while just one is made up in technology, media and telecoms.

The promotions double last year’s tally, when the City firm made up seven new partners.

The appointments take effect from 1 May and will bring the total number of partners at Bird & Bird to 187. That figure includes 10 new partners joining the firm in Finland when its merger with Helsinki practice Fennica Attorneys goes live on the same day.

Commenting on the promotions, Bird & Bird chief executive David Kerr (pictured) said: “We welcome these 14 lawyers to the Bird & Bird partnership. We are promoting a record number of new partners across 15 offices, demonstrating the success of our continued policy of rapid international expansion.”

The new partners are:

Mahmut Baran, Stockholm, tax
Dirk Barcaba, Frankfurt, real estate.
Ernst Barten, The Hague, tax
Daniel Cifuentes, Madrid, employment
Joss Hargrave, London, banking, insolvency and restructuring
Patrick Kelleher, London, patent litigation
