Konsta (pictured) was appointed today (29 May) after a contested election and will officially take up the post in autumn this year.
The election follows current senior partner Richard Dedman’s decision to step down just two years into his second five-year term to return to full-time fee earning work.
As Legal Week reported today, the position was hotly contested with a number of candidates standing. Other names initially touted for the role included aviation partner Giles Kavanagh and reinsurance and international risk chief Colin Croly.
Commenting on the appointment, Dedman said: “After seven years at the helm, the time is right to hand over to a successor who can build on what we have achieved from fresh perspectives and energies.”
Konsta said: “Richard has overseen a programme of development in which the firm has expanded the breadth of its corporate and commercial practices as well as commercial litigation; and it has done so while continuing to develop its traditional core areas of strength in insurance. These initiatives have set the firm in excellent stead for the future.

Konsta will take the helm under new terms after the top 50 law firm decided to amend the role, reducing the five-year term down to a maximum of three, with each post-holder able to serve no more than two terms. Other recent changes at the firm include replacing its eight-partner cross-department management board with a supervisory partnership council to review management decisions on a quarterly basis.
