Fulbright & Jaworski has boosted its City disputes practice with the hire of partner Melanie Ryan from Barlow Lyde & Gilbert.

Ryan became a partner at Barlows in 2006, working with the professional liability and commercial litigation department. Her experience includes representing financial institutions and insurers in commercial litigation, alternative dispute resolution and regulatory investigations.

The addition of Ryan takes the number of lawyers in Fulbright’s London disputes and investigations team to around 20.

Commenting on her move, Ryan said: “Fulbright’s commitment to these core areas [of energy, disputes and infrastructure] and its international reach make it an ideal fit for me. The firm’s global platform will allow me the opportunity to develop my practice, both domestically and internationally.”

Fulbright global litigation chief Stephen Dillard added: “[Ryan’s] depth of international work representing financial institutions worldwide will greatly benefit our clients and team of lawyers working within our international financial services disputes practice.”

The news comes after Fulbright last month hired high-profile former BG Group general counsel Stefan Ricketts as a partner in its energy team.

Ricketts will initially be based at Fulbright’s City arm but is to relocate to Hong Kong to spearhead the expansion of the 1,000-lawyer firm’s global energy practice.

Fulbright added three partners to its City energy, infrastructure and finance practice in 2007 and has since added two more this year.
