Ashurst has bolstered its Asian banking and restructuring practice with its second hire in as many months from US outfit White & Case, the top 10 UK law firm announced today (17 March).

Carl Dunton, whose clients include a number of major international banks, joins the Singapore office of Ashurst as a partner. He will work alongside banking and projects partners Matthew Bubb, who heads up the office, and Ashley Wright.

The hire comes after Ashurst last month secured the appointment of Tokyo project finance partner Matthias Schemuth, who also switched to the City giant from White & Case.

However, earlier this month (5 March) Ashurst lost a four-lawyer Paris projects team to US firm Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker.

Ashurst opened its Singapore branch in 1996. The office is now home to around 15 lawyers and focuses on areas including banking, projects, energy and natural resources.

Commenting on the appointment, Singapore managing partner Matthew Bubb said: “Carl's appointment is another important step in the continuing development of a thriving broad-based finance practice across the region.”

Dunton added: “I am delighted to be joining a firm of Ashurst's calibre and reputation at such an exciting time in its continued development in Asia.”

Last week White & Case also lost high-profile City finance duo Maurice Allen and Mike Goetz, who switched to City giant Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
