Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has turned to the magic circle for its latest hire with the appointment of Sidney Myers (pictured) to its financial services practice.

Myers heads up the regulatory investigations group at Allen & Overy and has been a partner at the firm since 1991. He will make the move to BLP in January.

Myers will become the head of BLP’s financial services regulatory practice, a role that was created as part of the firm’s continued push into the area after its launch three years ago.

BLP head of corporate John Bennett said: “Financial regulation and the reputational damage which can be caused by regulatory failures are business-critical issues for our financial services clients. Over the last few years we have been building a premier league team in this area. Bringing Sidney on board is an important step in this process.”

Sidney added: “My new role will provide me a great opportunity to build on the breadth of contentious and non-contentious financial regulatory experience which already exists in the firm and to work with a hugely talented team. I am really excited by this move.”

With Myers’ arrival at BLP there will be seven partners in the group. Last year the firm hired Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer associate Nathan Wilmott as partner. In 2006, Jonathan Marsh joined from Hunton & Williams as a partner.
