UK national Addleshaw Goddard has made up nine lawyers to its partnership, the firm announced last week (4 April).

The new appointments, which are effective from 1 May, almost double last year’s tally of five new partners, taking the firm’s total to 185.

Partners were made up across the firm’s three offices, with Manchester and Leeds gaining two partners apiece while the City arm gained five.

Corporate was the main beneficiary with Garry Elliott, Clare Thomas and Richard Thomas all promoted. Justine Delroy, Alan Duncan, Pervinder Kaur and Lucy Martin were made up in tax, real estate finance, private capital and banking respectively.

Financial regulation lawyer Amanda Hulme also got the nod, as did Anna Maxwell in commercial litigation.

The firm’s managing partner, Mark Jones, said: “My congratulations go to our nine new partners, many of whom were promoted to managing associate last year. This new career path and our established legal director role provide real opportunities for our top associates to develop their skills effectively and really shine.”

The managing associate role was introduced last year as part of a drive to reward high-achievers with four years’ post-qualification experience or more. The post — which carries a £5,000 pay increase and an additional two days’ holiday — came into effect on 1 September, 2007, with 134 lawyers across the firm’s network promoted to the position.

In a separate move, Addleshaws this week announced the promotion of 10 lawyers to director, a post introduced as an alternative to partnership. The promotions take the total number of directors at the firm to 36.
