National firms Pinsent Masons and Maclay Murray & Spens have become the latest major UK practices to join the digital revolution with both firms’ employment practices this month launching podcast services.

Pinsents has launched HR Network TV, which will offer two audiovisual news programmes on employment law issues every week for subscribers, who will be able to view the content on their iPods.

The new service, which will also offer a monthly in-depth analysis of risk management issues, is designed for in-house lawyers, human resources (HR) professionals and employment lawyers. Subscribers will pay a fee for the service.

Explaining the move, Pinsents media consultant Joe Glavina said: “With constantly evolving legislation and landmark court rulings to consider, HR professionals and business owners realise that they have to keep up with the changes but finding the time is a very real challenge.”

He went on: “The mobility of the iPod means that subscribers will be able to keep up to date with developments wherever they are — even when travelling between meetings.”

Meanwhile, Maclays has also started a podcast service of its own. The ‘big four’ Scots firm earlier this month broadcast the first of a series of online audio commentaries, providing third-party analysis of the latest employment law news.

Jane Fraser, who heads up Maclays’ employment, pensions and benefits group, commented: “We already deliver practical, commercial advice in an accessible form… and see the introduction of our podcast service as a natural, complementary next step.”

The move is the latest evidence of an ongoing drive by UK firms to harness new communication tools and sees Pinsents and Maclays join a growing band of podcasting law firms that includes Addleshaw Goddard and Dundas & Wilson.
