Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham is set to launch in Germany following talks with a six-partner team from Taylor Wessing’s Berlin arm.
Taylor Wessing partners say the team – which includes former office head Ruediger von Huelst as well as a number of associates – resigned following a dispute between partners in the Berlin office.
The loss will leave Taylor Wessing with around 20 lawyers in Berlin. However, Taylor Wessing German managing partner Wolfgang Rehmann said the firm was in talks over a number of lateral hires to plug the gaps.
A German office would be Kirkpatrick’s second European office after its City base, which it secured via a merger with legacy UK firm Nicholson Graham & Jones in January 2005. The 1400-lawyer firm is also currently looking to tie up a deal with Seattle-based firm Preston Gates & Ellis, which has around 450 lawyers and a significant presence in Asia.
Rehmann commented: “Obviously we are not happy about [the split] but it was a development we could see coming and from time to time these things happen. The gaps will be filled in due course.”
