Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw has launched a new office in Hong Kong after receiving the all-clear from the local Law Society, the firm announced today (29 November).
The Chicago firm has also hired Jones Day partner Jeffrey Chen to spearhead a local finance practice. Chen will be joined by London-based corporate partner Stephen Bottomley, who will take overall charge of the new office.
Bottomley, who has been with the firm since 1988, focuses on corporate finance, M&A and venture capital work, with particular emphasis on admissions to the Alternative Investment Market.
The new branch – which will open on 1 January next year – is the first office in Asia under the Mayer Brown name, although the 1,400-lawyer firm’s global trade practice has operated a consulting arm in Beijing under the name MBP Consulting.
Mayer Brown becomes the second US firm to launch in Hong Kong this month, following the announcement by Bingham McCutchen that it is relocating a three-lawyer finance team from London to expand its Asian offering.
