Denton Wilde Sapte has bolstered its presence in Paris by forming an exclusive alliance with rated local French restructuring and insolvency firm Poulain & Associes.
The four-partner, eleven-lawyer boutique firm, which is headed by high-profile insolvency partner Jean-Paul Poulain, will work alongside Dentons’ three-partner insolvency team, led by Constantin Achillas. The agreement took effect from 1 July.
Poulain sealed a merger with local rival Sonier & Associes at the beginning of last year to become Sonier Poulain & Associes. However, it has emerged that Sonier has now left and the firm has dropped the Sonier name.
Poulain has acted for clients including Dunlop, Alstom, Euro Disney and Eurotunnel.
Achillas commented: “Poulain has a strong background working with debtors, where we tend to work with creditors. We intend to remain independent at this stage, but bringing the two together can only make us stronger and will ensure that we have a comprehensive range of legal support in Dentons Paris that matches the London office.”
Dentons’ 12-partner Paris office practises both French and English law. It is predicting a rise in the Parisian restructuring and insolvency markets and is also hoping that the move will bring in more cross-border work.
Dentons’ chief executive Howard Morris said: “Poulain is a leader in its market and this alliance will create excellent synergies with our top-ranking UK practice, led by Mark Andrews, while also delivering new growth opportunities for a number of supporting practice areas both in Paris and around our international network.”
