Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) is gearing up to review its senior management with the managing partner role up for grabs early in the New Year.

Current incumbent Neville Eisenberg is coming to the end of a nine-year stint as managing partner at the City firm. The vote is due for February with the three-year term set to begin on 1 May.

Eisenberg, who ran uncontested during the 2003 and 2006 elections, was first elected in 1999 and ratified in 2001, when Berwin Leighton merged with Paisner & Co.

Eisenberg has refused to confirm whether he will stand again. However, partners inside the firm have indicated that he is likely to run again in a move that would potentially make him one of the longest-serving leaders of a major City law firm.

At the same time as the managing partner election, the firm is set to put forward its nomination for senior partner and chairman of its board, though neither position is elected. The positions are respectively held currently by Harold Paisner and Peter Robinson.

Eisenberg has presided over a period of rapid growth at the upwardly mobile firm, including bedding down what is viewed as one of the most successful UK mergers. In recent months the firm has also begun to focus on developing its international network.

One partner commented: “I would expect [Eisenberg] to continue — he has done a cracking job so far.”

The firm recently announced plans to launch in Abu Dhabi, with preparations to relocate London hospitality and leisure partner John Sipling along with four other associates.

The firm also launched a search for US referral partners after rolling out its preferred firm network initiative across the Atlantic.

However, news of the impending election comes as BLP is hit by the financial slowdown. The firm saw partner profits dip in 2007-08, falling by 6% to £620,000, reversing five years of sharply-rising profitability.
