DLA Piper’s Nigel Knowles is to offer his own personal style tips and coaching to managing partners across the UK as part of a new initiative to help firms cope with the market downturn.

Knowles (pictured) is teaming up with H4 consultant Alan Hodgart to run sessions for senior management at the UK’s leading law firms in a venture launched by the Managing Partners’ Forum (MPF).

A number of managing partners have already signed up to the project, which will include sessions on presentation and tone when dealing with problems thrown up by the economic crisis.

MPF executive director Richard Chaplin said: “One of the biggest issues for managers is tone and style. There is no monopoly of wisdom when it comes to this. The meetings are a bit like Alcoholics Anonymous or a self help group — you turn up and share your problem and then everyone discusses the best course of action.”

Separately, the MPF is also encouraging law firm leaders to increase professional networking — creating a new group on networking site LinkedIn. MPF and associated body PM Forum already has more than 1,000 subscribers and is encouraging heads of sectors — including finance, HR and marketing — at professional services institutions to sign up.

The professional body is also targeting other groups on LinkedIn to try to boost links with senior professionals in-house.
