DLA Piper has bolstered its regulatory and litigation practice with the hire of former Burges Salmon competition partner Andrij Jurkiw.

The appointment, announced today (19 November), will see Jurkiw join the firm’s London office as a partner in the contentious team, after resigning from Burges Salmon in July 2008.

His practice will see him handling major competition investigations and litigation as well as helping to develop competition team’s contentious practice.

He specialises in dawn raids, OFT investigations and competition inquiries across sectors including construction, financial services, specialist chemicals and transport.

DLA Piper’s litigation and regulatory group head, Neil Gerrard, said: “The appointment of Andrij to our London team is the latest coup for our litigation and regulatory practice – enhancing a team that has firmly established itself as a key player in its space.”

He added: “Andrij comes to us with nearly 20 years of first-class experience and I know that he will prove to be a valuable and critical member of the team, offering a unique viewpoint that will greatly benefit our clients.”

Jurkiw said: “Developments in competition law have rarely been so fast-paced and challenging – both at national and international levels. The need for advice and representation is absolutely crucial for any organisation or company.”

Earlier this year Brussels-based competition partner David Cox transferred over to China to head up DLA Piper’s competition practice in the region.
