Life insurance and pensions provider AEGON
UK has appointed Shepherd and Wedderburn corporate partner Marian Glen as its first-ever general counsel.
As part of the new role, Glen will advise the company executive on legal and corporate governance issues as well as taking on company secretarial duties.
Glen will formally take up the position in January 2009 and will report to AEGON UK finance director Mark Laidlaw.
Commenting on her new appointment, Glen said: “AEGON is one of the most progressive and forward-looking groups in the long-term savings market and I am delighted to be joining the team there. It has been a testing year for the financial sector but I am looking forward to the challenges of my new role.”
Laidlaw added: “Marian is recognised as one of Scotland’s leading corporate lawyers. Her broad experience within the financial sector and on a number of key transactions will be very valuable to AEGON and will add strength and vision to our legal team in an important new role.
News of AEGON UK’s first-ever general counsel follows the appointment of Jeremy Shewring as Samsung’s first European legal head. Shewring was named as the electronics company’s European general counsel earlier this month.
