DLA Piper has bolstered its presence in the Gulf after setting up a joint venture with Kuwaiti law firm Al Wagayan, Al Awadhi & Al Saif Partner, it was announced today (8 October).

The joint venture, which will take the name DLA Piper Kuwait, will be financially integrated with the firm and will and gift DLA Piper 50 lawyers in the region.

The office, which is headed by senior partner Nader Al Awadhi, will specialise in corporate, commercial, banking & finance, Islamic finance and projects.

It adds to the firm’s existing offices in the region in Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dubai and Muscat.

DLA Piper chief executive, Nigel Knowles said: “We are delighted to engage with Al Wagayan, Al Awadhi & Al Saif in Kuwait, which is one of the few countries in the Middle East we did not yet have a presence in.”

“This agreement has empowered both organisations to provide the best quality and range of service to our clients. Given that Kuwait is one of the key Gulf Cooperation Council economies it was a strategic decision to partner with a local organisation that mirrors our own principles and objectives.”

The news comes as Akin Gump Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld launched a six lawyer office in Abu Dhabi today.
