Dickinson Dees is set to launch a redundancy consultation in its volume business division.

The consultation, which will start next week (22 July), will look at the 165 staffed volume business divisions - recently rebranded as d3 – as the firm looks set to reduce its headcount by approximately 70.

The re-mortgage, Home Information Packs and conveyancing teams are all likely to be hit; however, the repossessions and loss recovery team will not be affected.

The consultation, which is likely to affect only a handful of lawyers, will last for approximately 45 days and close at the end of August.

The d3 division deals with volume work – practices which have been hit by the economic downturn.

In a statement, the firm said the consultation “follows a review of the division’s financial results and the effect of the worldwide downturn in the financial markets on the UK residential property market.”

The northeast heavyweight recently unveiled its financial results, posting an increase in turnover of 7% for 2007-08.

The results took the Dickinson Dees’ turnover to £60m, up from the £56m billed last year. The d3 division’s contribution to this total was £6.6m.

Last November the firm announced that it was axing 17 staff from its re-mortgage division, clients of which included stricken Newcastle lender Northern Rock.
