Sidley
Austin has promoted 34 associates to its partnership, with only one promotion in
London.
Securities lawyer David Howe is the only London associate to be made up, with the Chicago-based firm promoting associates across its US, Asian, Australian and European offices.
Howe, who joined Sidley Austin in 1999 from Clifford Chance, where he qualified in 1998, advises clients on 'plain vanilla' Eurobonds, capital markets and securities.
Sidley Austin’s London arm has 140 English and US-qualified lawyers, and is currently one of the largest City offices among the US law firms with London outposts.
Other European offices to receive promotions were Brussels, which added two new partners, and Frankfurt and Geneva, which promoted one new partner apiece.
The Chicago office took the lion’s share of promotions, with 11 associates being made partner, while New York made up seven new partners.
Los Angeles, Washington and San Francisco respectively saw four, two and one new partners.
The promotions will bring the firm's global partnership to 681 and will take effect on 1 July.
Commenting on Howe’s promotion, London managing partner Drew Scott said: “David is a key member of the securities team in London. He is a very fine lawyer and has the respect of our clients and colleagues.”
Thomas Cole, chair of the firm’s executive committee, said: “These lawyers embody our firm ideals and our commitment to excellence, integrity, diversity and collegiality.”
