Shoosmiths is set to make up to 28 redundancies, becoming the latest law firm to make staff cutbacks.

The cuts, which all come from the firm’s Northampton-based consumer residential conveyancing group, have already seen 21 support staff and two conveyancers accept voluntary redundancy.

A 30-day consultation on a further five compulsory redundancies is currently taking place and is set to close on 7 July. All five in question are fee earners.

The cuts will reduce the size of the group by a quarter, leaving the team with approximately 90 staff.

Shoosmiths joins firms including Howard Kennedy, McGrigors, Halliwells, Challinors and TLT in announcing redundancy consultations in recent weeks.

ASB is currently consulting over closing its Brighton and Horsham offices, which have 70 staff in total, although the firm said staff could be redeployed.
