Commercial partner Peter Valert has taken over as managing partner of DLA Piper’s
Prague office.
Valert – who also heads up the firm’s 12-laywer Sofia office and leads the Central & Eastern European (CEE) technology, media and commercial practice – replaces Joerg Nuernberger in the management role.
Valert, who is a former legal advisor to the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will continue to lead the Sofia branch, while Nuernberger will concentrate on his role as head of the Prague corporate practice.
Commenting on the switch, Valert said: “I welcome the opportunity lead the further development of the Prague office and intend to strengthen our capabilities in the Czech market and raise our profile in order to establish the office as one of the top law firms in the Czech Republic.”
He added: “Nuernberger will now focus on developing the corporate practice and I already had a lot of contacts in Prague. It will be an interesting balancing act for me, but I welcome the opportunity.”
DLA Piper currently has 22 lawyers based in Prague, including two partners. The office focuses on areas including corporate, employment, intellectual property, real estate and competition.
DLA Piper CEE regional managing partner Ivo Deskovic said: “The Prague office is very important to [our] business in the CEE. We aim to expand our business in the Czech Republic as well as across the region, reflecting the region’s consistent strong economic growth.”
