Holman Fenwick Willan has made up eight lawyers to its partnership, including three at its London hub.

The City partners are promoted to the international commodity and trade shipping, admiralty, and shipping and aviation asset finance teams.

The London office has also promoted master mariner Kaare Langeland (pictured) to senior manager, a position equivalent to partner status. He joined Holman Fenwick in 2005 as an admiralty claims investigator and had been based in the Hong Kong office, but relocated to London earlier this month.

The bulk of the remaining promotions come in Asia, with the Hong Kong office gaining two new partners and Shanghai and Singapore picking up one apiece. The firm has also promoted one in its Paris office.

The promotions follow the firm’s recent moves to bolster its offices in Dubai, China and Australia. In February the firm hired Christian Taylor from Manches to head its Dubai commercial property and construction team, while energy partner Paul Aston moved from Singapore to Shanghai to lead the office. Litigation partner Chris Lockwood moved from London to Melbourne.

Holman Fenwick senior partner Richard Crump said: “The promotions are spread across the world and are reflective of our continued drive to expand our revenue stream overseas.

“It is satisfying to promote so many home-grown people and equally rewarding to see our talented lawyers in different offices becoming partners”.

Holman Fenwick’s promotions came in the same week that Travers Smith and Shepherd & Wedderburn unveiled their 2008 partner promotions. Travers promoted four new partners, while Scots leader Shepherds is making up three new partners.

Shepherds’ promotions came into effect on 1 May, while Travers’ become effective on 1 July. They take the firms’ partnerships to 72 and 67 respectively.

Travers’ promotions represent a significant drop on last year, when the firm made up nine new partners.
