Weil Gotshal & Manges has signed a deal with the College of Law that will see the US firm’s City trainees on the Legal Practice Course (LPC) receive bespoke training from the education provider.

Under the terms of the deal, which takes effect from September 2009, Weil Gotshal’s annual intake of trainees will spend two terms at the College in Moorgate before a final term studying the firm’s bespoke electives.

Weil Gotshal first began taking on trainees in the City in 1998, two years after opening in the capital, and now brings in 14 trainees a year.

Commenting on the scheme, Weil Gotshal graduate recruitment partner Jonathan Wood said: “We believe that it will enable us to get our trainees even more up to speed when they start with us, by getting them used to our precedents and our approach to client service.”

He added: “It is an important part of the long-term investment that we make in training – an investment that is essential if we are to provide our clients with the highest quality of legal advice and service that they have come to expect from Weil Gotshal.”

The College of Law remains London’s cheapest LPC provider, despite upping its own fees by 5% to charge full-time students £10,340 from September 2008.

It has exclusive agreements to provide LPC training already in place with firms including the magic circle trio of Clifford Chance, Linklaters and Allen & Overy.
