Shepherd & Wedderburn has made up three lawyers to its partnership, the big four Scots firm announced yesterday (8 May).

The promotions, which took effect from 1 May, bring the firm's total partnership to 72.

Edinburgh-based Fiona Paterson and Gordon Hay were promoted in insolvency and banking respectively, while Philip Knowles has become a partner in the firm's City corporate finance team.

Commenting on the promotions, Shepherds chief executive Patrick Andrews said: “I am delighted to recognise the wealth of talent we currently have at the firm via these promotions. Fiona, Philip and Gordon have already made a major contribution to the success of their specialist areas. Their promotions are well deserved and in line with our strategy to develop these practice areas further in 2008.”

He added: “These promotions reflect our aim to recognise and reward talent and hard work and our ongoing expansion is based on recruiting, retaining and rewarding the very best people in the market.”

The news comes after Scots rival Dundas & Wilson promoted six new partners, three in London and three in Edinburgh.

Earlier this week (7 May) Irish heavyweight A&L Goodbody announced that it is making up seven lawyers to its partnership, bringing the total number of partners at the Dublin-based firm to 70.
