Nabarro has launched a climate change group, bringing together 20 partners from practice areas including fund management and construction to advise clients.

The group will be headed by energy partner Tom Bainbridge, who has been at the firm for just over a year after joining from national firm Hammonds.

The new team will consist of 20 partners and 23 associates specialising in energy, fund management, property development, planning, construction and litigation. They will work with the firm’s wider practices to cover broader sustainability issues by pulling together energy, water and waste regulation advice under one umbrella.

Bainbridge said: “The issue of climate change has come of age and our new group reflects client demand for a single point at which to access our cross-disciplinary experience of climate change and energy related issues.

“Due to changing government policy there is a big appetite in the market that makes it an increasingly competitive area, and I think we are very well placed.”

The firm already acts for sector clients including EcoCentroGen, Land Securities, London Development Agency and The Carbon Trust.

In 2007 the top 25 UK law firm acted on 30 energy transactions worth a total £3.5bn as well as 10 energy-related disputes with combined claims of around £500m.

Recent deals include advising on the sale of Slough Heaton Power for £50m.
