Just over a third of the appointments made by the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) were women, according to data released at the end of last month (30 April). The JAC received 2,535 valid applications for legal and non-legal positions with 458 appointments made. Data collected between April 2007 to 31 March, 2008 shows 34% of appointments were women, but only 8% of those appointed were from black and ethnic minorities. In addition only 7% of those appointed had disabilities.
