Clifford Chance (CC) has bolstered its Asian finance team with the addition of partner Simon Briscoe from City rival Norton Rose.
Briscoe will join CC’s Singapore asset finance team as a partner in the autumn and will head up the magic circle firm’s Asian aviation practice. He joined Norton Rose in 1995 and became a partner with the top 10 City outfit in 1997.
The news comes after Legal Week reported last month that CC is to launch a new India practice group based at its Singapore arm, which will focus on capital markets group and is to include six Indian-trained lawyers from the Hong Kong and Singapore offices. London capital markets partner Edward Bradley is to relocate to Singapore in September to help build the team.
Commenting on the hire, London asset finance partner William Glaister said: “China, India and southeast Asia, together with the Middle East, are target areas for most of the industry and we are committed to providing clients with first-class legal services for those jurisdictions, led by the best people.”
CC’s Asia finance chief, Huw Jenkins, added: “Aircraft finance activity in Asia is thriving and our international and regional clients expect us to have a strong and knowledgeable team on the ground in the region. With expertise in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Tokyo and now Singapore, we can be sure of providing the service that they require.”
Last month Norton Rose boosted its Singapore arm with the hire of Duane Morris corporate partner Adam Summerly. That came after corporate finance partner Chris Moore quit the firm's Singapore office to rejoin former firm Allen & Overy in January.
