Midlands firm Browne Jacobson has become the first major UK practice to announce its results for the latest financial year, posting a 10% rise in turnover to reach a new high of £35m.

The firm boosted its annual fee income by £3.1m from £31.9m to £35m, with the firm citing its business services and property teams as particularly strong performers.

The teams have increased their turnover by 26% and 31% respectively over the last 12 months, with the firm having quadrupled its turnover over the last decade.

Highlights for the firm over the last year include winning panel appointments to the Welsh Assembly Government, construction giant Mace, Yorkshire Bank, GE Commercial Finance and the Health & Safety Executive, as well as being reappointed to the NHS Litigation Authority panel.

The result marks a slight improvement on last year’s performance, when Browne Jacobson reported a 7% climb in fee income.

Managing partner Brian Smith commented: “Over the last few years the firm has invested heavily in offices, people and technology and we are now seeing this strategy bearing fruit. Our improved financial performance has been achieved without merger or acquisition or adding additional offices to our network.”

He added: “Despite challenging market conditions we are determined to grow income further over the next 12 months by taking full advantage of our strength in depth across a number of practice areas and focusing on three key growth sectors, including commercial, health and insurance.”

The firm made four lateral partner hires and promoted 11 new partners internally over the year.
