Hunton & Williams has announced this year’s partner promotions, making up 11 new partners across the firm as a whole. The figure, announced today (3 April), marks a drop from last year’s total of 20 new partners.
London corporate partner Dearbhla Quigley is this year’s only new partner to be based in Europe. She joined the 1,000-lawer US firm from national giant Hammonds four years ago alongside Hunton’s current European managing partner, Martin Thomas. Her practice focuses on private equity, M&A and securities offerings.
The promotion of Quigley takes the number of partners in the London – one of just two European branches alongside an office in Brussels – to 12, including four in the corporate department.
Commenting on the promotions, Thomas said: “It is a fair comment that it is less than last year’s 20 and also the previous year’s 13 but we don’t tend to make up vast numbers of partners.”
Thomas told Legal Week that expanding the City real estate team was the next priority for the firm’s UK practice. Hunton's City office currently focuses on areas including corporate, energy and projects, insolvency and outsourcing.
Last month the firm appointed a new London banking and finance head with the hire of Roger Dyer from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
