Olswang has hired an eight-lawyer team from Linklaters as the fall-out from the magic circle firm’s German restructuring continues.

Linklaters partners Stefan Lutje and Georg von Wallis join Olswang’s Berlin office as partners in the media, communications and technology (MCT) practice. They are joined by Viola Bensinger, who will become a partner on joining the firm, and five associates.

Lutje and von Wallis have both been at Linklaters and its legacy German practice for 20 years and will be a significant boost to Olswang’s German arm, which has primarily focused on real estate and projects work since it opened in January last year.

Lutje practises in the media sector, working on film production and distribution agreements and related financings. Von Wallis, meanwhile, is a tax specialist and focuses on structured asset finance, with a particular emphasis on film and project financing.

Bensigner works on copyright and licensing agreements as well as film and media finance.

Olswang German managing partner Peter Diedrich commented: “It's an exciting period of growth for Olswang in the German market. In our first year of operation we've built a leading team, advising on high profile deals and I'm thrilled to welcome such a widely recognised team to the firm."

The hires follow a period of reshaping for Linklaters’ German practice after the firm announced last year that it was to shut its Cologne office to launch a new practice in Duesseldorf, in a move that saw a large group of local lawyers leave the firm. Linklaters is also reviewing the compensation of its German equity partners.
