Wragge & Co has promoted nine new partners, the Birmingham giant announced today (26 March), with real estate and intellectual property (IP) among the main beneficiaries.

Real estate gains three new partners, with Toby Askin, Karen Howard and Jonathon Wilkes all making the step up, while construction specialist Paul Green also gets the nod.

Alexandra Brodie and Luke Kempton are both promoted to partner in the IP team, meanwhile, which numbers around 40 lawyers. Brodie specialises in brand litigation and high-tech IP disputes, while Kempton advises on patent litigation and non-contentious and regulatory matters in the life sciences division.

Commenting on the promotions, Wragges senior partner Quentin Poole said: “In an uncertain market, we are keen to invest in people who have the skills and ambition to drive [our] long-term development. Nine new partners is a tangible sign of our investment in the firm’s long-term future rather than making short-term cutbacks.”

He added: “All of these entrepreneurial and talented lawyers have shown themselves adept at winning new business, developing relationships and providing excellent client service.”

Additional appointments include Sharon Ayres to the corporate group, Richard Lee in the human resources team and Greg Standing in finance litigation.

The promotions to Wragges’ all-equity partnership come into effect from 1 May.

Wragges becomes the latest UK firm to unveil its partner promotions, joining the City trio of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, CMS Cameron McKenna and Olswang, which named 25, 11 and 10 new partners respectively.
