Covington & Burling’s London office has appointed a new managing partner as the firm announces a double-digit increase in firm-wide turnover, with revenues increasing by 14.5%.
Roger Enock, a litigation partner who joined the US firm last year from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, has already taken up his new post as local office head - replacing corporate partner Ed Britton, who is remaining with the firm to concentrate on building the corporate practice. Enock will work closely with deputy managing partner Louise Nash.
Enock told Legal Week that he wanted to see the London office build up its existing corporate, litigation and regulatory practices, as well as its intellectual property and IT teams. The office currently has around 44 lawyers in the UK.
He said: “The private equity funds practice is going great guns - the team advised on fund investments and transactions totalling in excess of $2.5bn (£1.24bn) in the past year. As the transatlantic capability of the practice continues to grow, we expect to make further progress in attracting high-quality clients in this arena.”
Timothy Hester, chairman of Covington’s management committee, added: “We are continuing to focus on both growth within the firm and on lateral hires of high quality, such as Roger.”
Enock’s appointment as managing partner comes as Covington announces a firm-wide increase in gross revenues of just over 14% to $467m (£232m), up from $408m (£202m) in 2006.
The London office recorded turnover of $30.9m (£15.3m) - an 11% increase on the 2006 figures.
The Washington DC-based firm also saw its firm-wide profits per equity partner increase by 8% on the previous year to $1.175m (£582,000), up from $1.085m (£537,000)
in 2006.
