Hunton & Williams has appointed a new City banking and finance head with the hire of Roger Dyer from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Dyer joins the US outfit’s London office as a partner after almost 25 years with the magic circle firm, including 17 as a partner.

During his time at Freshfields, Dyer spent a 10-year stint in the firm’s now-defunct Singapore office, acting as local managing partner from 1998 until 2002. He has previously advised clients including Lehman Brothers and P&O.

Commenting on the appointment, Hunton Europe managing partner Martin Thomas said: "[Our] international practice has generated an increasing demand for a banking and finance partner in our London office. Roger's global experience in banking work and all its various forms strengthens the firm’s competitive position in the demanding London corporate and financial markets.”

He added: “In addition, his extensive experience in Asia will contribute to our already highly successful offices in Bangkok, Beijing and Singapore."

The hire represents the second senior appointment by Hunton in recent months for its small City outpost, having last year taken on outsourcing partner Peter Brudenall.

Brudenall joined Hunton’s London arm – which was established in 1999 and practises both US and UK law – from top 20 UK firm Simmons & Simmons.
